The local Fort Frances 'Taggs - Source for Sports' Bantam AA team hosts tourney this Friday, November 21 to Sunday, November 23 - featuring teams from Thunder Bay, Kenora, Dryden, International Falls and Fort Frances. The opening game for the tourney has the local Taggs team playing International Falls @ 11:15 am on Friday. The local Taggs team also plays at 5:45 pm on Friday. The championship game is 1:45 PM on Sunday.

The Sunset Country Métis will host their annual harvest supper today (Nov. 21) at 5:30 p.m. at the Métis Hall. The event is potluck, and also will feature entertainment by the Winnipeg Métis Square Dancers.

A snowmobile safety training course will be held Saturday, Nov. 22 in Emo and again Saturday, Nov. 29 in Fort Frances. The fee is $30 (due at registration), and each course is limited to 25 people. To register, call Rick Socholotuk (274-5133), Borderland Esso (482-2538), or Brian Russel (852-3373).

CUPE Local 65 will hold its annual retirement dinner and dance on Saturday, Nov. 22 at the local Legion. Cocktails are at 6:30 p.m., with dinner at 7. Tickets, available from your unit chair, cost $20 for members (reimbursed at the door) and $23 for guests.

The annual “Spirit of Christmas” fundraiser will be held Sunday, Nov. 23 from 4-8 p.m. at La Place Rendez-Vous. Admission is a toonie, with proceeds going to the “Community Chest” and Canadian Cancer Society.

The hospital auxiliary’s Christmas cash draw, featuring prizes of $1,000, $300, and $200, will be held Nov. 28. Area captains and ticket-sellers should get their sold ticket stubs and money in ASAP (can be left at the hospital gift shop or call 274-8422 for pickup).

A dramatic reading of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol,” hosted by the Voyageur Lions Club and featuring CBC Radio personality Reg Sherren, is planned for Sunday, Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. at Knox United Church. Tickets cost $12 in advance (available at the Fort Frances Public Library, Northwoods Gallery & Gifts, and the church) and $15 at the door, with proceeds going towards the Fort Frances Public Library’s fund for Assisted Vision Technology.
