RUSSELL WESTOVER
It is with great sadness that the family of Russell Westover announces his passing, after a lengthy battle with cancer, on Friday, Aug. 15, 2008 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
Russell David “Chummy” Westover was born Sept. 23, 1943 in Vancouver, B.C. to Grace (Ellers) and Donovan Westover.
Russell was married to Cheryl Jean Beck on Nov. 16, 1968 in Fort Frances. They moved to Winnipeg, Man., where they lived for seven years.
After accepting a job with Boise Cascade, Russell, Cheryl, and their young son, Cory, moved back to Fort Frances.
ELDER JACK
Elder Jack, 93, of Emo, Ont., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2008 at the Emo Health Centre in Emo.
Elder was born Aug. 2, 1915 to Amelia and Lewis Jack on the family homestead in Lash Township, Ont.
Elder is survived by his sisters, Eileen Martin of Peterborough, Ont., and Hilda Sweet of Ear Falls, Ont.; and brother, Harvey and wife, Fay, of Castlegar, B.C.; sons, Larry and wife, Maureen, and Melvin; daughter, Marilynn; and sisters-in-law, Elma Hunter of Thunder Bay, Ont., and Madge Littlefield of Burlington, Ont.
BUNTJE VALLEY (VAL) RICHARDSON
On July 17, 1929, Aukje June and Buntje Valley Reinders were born to Hilbrand and Jeanne “Scotty” Reinders in Fort Qu’Appelle, Sask. They were the youngest of five girls.
Within the year, Hilbrand and his brother, Tjasse, moved their families north to settle in what is now Deadwood, Alta.
JOHN SOLARYK
John Solaryk, in his 86th year, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008 at the Scarborough General Hospital in Scarborough, Ont. following a brief illness.
Born to Mike and Dora Solaryk on May 12, 1923 in Fort Frances, Ont., John resided there until joining the army in WW II, where he was a proud member of the Hastings & Prince Edward Regiment (1st Brigade), 1st Infantry Division.
John served in Italy and northwest Europe.
Anne Buyar
Anne Buyar
Anne passed away peacefully on Friday, August 8, 2008.
She is survived by her loving family, son David and
grandsons Michael, Daniel & Nicholas.
Anne was born on December 15, 1919 in Fort Frances, Ontario.
She was the only child of Maxim and Tatiana Olinyk. She
obtained a diploma in Business Administration and worked as a
bookkeeper and administrative assistant for the Hamilton Coal
Department and Hamilton City Hall.
Upon her return to Fort Frances she met her husband, Anton
(Tony) and was married on October 1, 1947. They operated a

With heavy hearts, the family of Delia Calder announces her passing, after a lengthy illness, on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont.
Services will be held Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008 at 2 p.m. at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Fort Frances.

ANTHONY BUYAR
Anthony “Tony” Buyar passed away peacefully in the early-morning hours of Sunday, July 20, 2008 at his home in Vernon, B.C. at the age of 86.
His funeral service was held at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church in Vernon on July 24, 2008, and was well-attended by family and Tony’s friends and neighbours.
Tony is survived by his wife, Anne, of Vernon, B.C.; son, David of Prince George, B.C.; and grandsons, Nicholas and Michael of Prince George, B.C. and Daniel of Fredericton, N.B.
Two of Tony’s sisters, Olga and Lydia, continue to reside in Dauphin, Man.
HELEN LABATCH
Helen Labatch, of R.R.#2, Emo, Ont., passed away peacefully on Jan. 29, 2008 at the Riverside health care facility in Emo at the age 81.
Helen was born March 25, 1926 in Chapple Township to the late Charles and Emily Labatch.
She was a very hard-working and independent women. She resided for 44 years at her home on Off Lake Road, only a short distance from where she was born.
ROY RUNTLEDGE RAMSDALE
It is with sadness we announce the passing of our son and brother, Roy Runtledge Ramsdale, on July 22, 2008 at the CTCT New Fountain Care Centre in Vancouver, B.C.
Roy was born Jan. 23, 1952 at the Red Cross Hospital in Emo, Ont. to Margaret and Harry Ramsdale.
He is survived by his mother, Margaret Ramsdale of Emo, Ont.; sisters, Judy (John) Ratcliffe of Winnipeg, Man., Ruth (Richard) Macedon of Fort Frances, Ont., and Grace McLauchlan of Edmonton, Alta.; brother, Alan (Iris) Ramsdale of Langley, B.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
RUTH JEWETT
The family of Mrs. Ruth Jewett announces with great sorrow her unexpected passing on Friday, Aug. 1, 2008.
Born May 17, 1926 in Fort Frances, Ont. to Harvey and Dagney Zimmerman, Ruth was the youngest of four children. On April 21, 1944, she was united in marriage to Ivan Jewett and was a devoted wife for 63 years.
Ruth started her career at the Fort Frances Times. Then in 1961, she was successful in obtaining a position with the Unemployment Insurance Commission—quite an accomplishment in those days.
